WEATHER FORECAST: New dawn, new day – but more unsettled weather on the way
The settled weather we’ve enjoyed in recent days is set to continue today and into New Year’s Day. But after that we’ll have to wrap up again as the country is lashed with widespread showers.
In its latest forecast, Met Éireann said rain is set to cover Kilkenny and the rest of the country on January 2 after an initial dry start to 2020 on New Year’s Day.
The national forecaster said today will be dry with some bright or sunny spells. Cloud will build during the afternoon bringing some patchy mist but it will remain dry “apart from isolated spots of light drizzle”. It will also be quite mild for this time of year, with temperatures rising to 9 to 11 degrees.
New Year’s Eve will also be a largely dry affair with more sunny spells across most of the country and highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees.
The dry conditions will continue into New Year’s Day with just the odd patch of light rain or drizzle and highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.
However, the weather is set to take a turn for the worst on Thursday and Friday, with rain and windy conditions forecast for all parts of the country.
