WEATHER WARNING: Batten down the hatches – 100kph winds set to batter Kilkenny

Winds of over 100kph are set to batter Kilkenny this weekend and road users are being urged to drive with caution.

Met Eireann has issued a yellow weather warning for Kilkenny with gusts up to 100kph and winds of up to 60kph.

The warning issued on the back of Storm Atiyah includes all Leinster counties as well as Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford and is in place from 3pm Sunday until 6am Monday.

The national weather forecaster is also warning of heavy rains which could cause spot flooding in places.

Met Éireann is warning motorists to be aware of falling or fallen debris on the road, to reduce your speed and give extra distance between vehicles as road conditions can change quickly in high winds. They also urge cyclists and motorcyclists to consider cancelling or delaying any trips they may have planned.
