WEATHER FORECAST: Kilkenny could be thunderstruck this weekend as hail and heavy showers hit
Met Éireann has warned we could be hit with hail and even some thunderstorms this weekend.
But they said brighter days are looming early next week, with mild temperatures and even the chance of some rare winter sunshine.
It will be dry and bright in many places today, with occasional showers later this evening but these will largely be confined to the west.
As we head into the weekend there will be a mix of sunshine and showers tomorrow, with the risk of hail and thunderstorms on Sunday.
Met Éireann said: “Friday will be a bright day with sunshine and showers. These will die out during the afternoon. Cloud will increase and rain will develop on the west coast in the early evening. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with moderate to fresh southwest winds.”
The national forecaster said “much of Saturday will be wet with spells of rain”. But they added: “The rain will gradually clear eastwards with showers following. Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees with fresh south to southeast winds, later veering south to southwest. On Saturday night, showers will continue in many areas. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees.”
Met Éireann said Sunday will be “a cool, blustery day with widespread showers and a risk of hail and isolated thunderstorms”.
However, there will also be some bright or sunny spells and it will also be quite mild for this time of year, with highest temperatures of between 9 to 13 degrees.
