WEEKEND WEATHER: Kilkenny braced for more heavy showers, but sunny spells on the horizon
A 39-hour Status Yellow rainfall warning for 20 counties including Kilkenny finally expired at 3am this morning. But don’t get your hopes up just yet – much of this weekend is set to be a washout.
There are some sunny spells forecast for Sunday, but it’s looking pretty grim for much of today and tomorrow.
Met Éireann said: “A misty start on Friday. Outbreaks of rain in the east and northeast will gradually turn more showery during the day with some brighter spells developing later. Elsewhere, a brighter day generally with sunny spells and a few scattered showers. Highest temperatures 16 to 20 degrees.”
More rain, “prolonged and heavy at times”, is forecast for tomorrow, with maximum temperatures of between 15 to 19 degrees with fresh and blustery southeasterly winds, becoming strong at times along coastal areas.
Sunday is looking a bit brighter, with sunny spells and some scattered showers throughout the day, but these will mainly affect the north and west. Highest temperatures of between 14 to 18 degrees are forecast.
Kilkenny faces more rain from Monday, which will be heaviest in the south before extending across the country, with maximum temperatures again between 14 to 18 degrees.
Further periods of heavy rain are forecast for the early parts of next week.
