‘We’ve wanted this for so long’ – former Ireland soccer star says winning Kilkenny camogie crown tops her sporting achievements
Multi-talented soccer star and RTÉ pundit Karen Duggan says helping her local GAA club to win its first ever camogie title tops the list of her sporting achievements so far.
Duggan, 33, is best known for her exploits with Peamount United, as well as in her capacity as a pundit for the national broadcaster. And last weekend she proudly wore the colours of her native Piltown as they beat Dicksboro to win the Kilkenny camogie crown for the first time.
In a thrilling decider at UPMC Nowlan Park, Duggan and Piltown beat the two-time champions 3-11 to 0-14 to finally get their hands on the cup.
The former Republic of Ireland international won four WNL titles and the FAI cup with Peamount. But in an interview with Community Radio Kilkenny City, Duggan said: “I think this is probably top because we’ve wanted this for so long.
“Me and Katie [Power] were just talking about when we grew up and not even having a camogie club.
“We came up all the way to senior and we’ve had so many disappointments.
“This makes up for everything now, this is unreal. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything like it.”
