Young and gifted and Cat: Talented Kilkenny writer and musician to feature on own podcast for RTE
A young Killkenny musician and writer is set to feature on a RTÉ Radio Series which looks into the lives of people in the creative world.
Joshua Cullen, a 17-year-old Kilkenny native will feature on “My Creative Life,” an RTÉjr and RTÉ Radio 1 series of short radio pieces about the creative world of young people, which will be broadcast over the coming weeks.
Although Joshua loved writing stories when he was younger for a number of external reasons and pressures he reached a stage where he didn’t feel they were worth his time any more. But just a couple of years ago, he came across the Rhyme Rag Ensemble, a programme for young Kilkenny creative writers produced and managed by Kilkenny County Councils Arts Office.
This discovery reignited his love of writing and poetry as he was now surrounded by like-minded people. As he says himself in his podcast the group learn from each other and with each other. Now, writing poetry is something very important to Joshua, it’s a place where he can dream again and be open to express himself.
Joshua’s episode will also air on RTE Jr at 7pm Tuesday 25th August 2020.
The Rhyme Rag is a long running successful creative writing and spoken word programme with for and by young people (12 – 21 years). The programme has three main strands, the online journal www.rhymerag.net, a schools programme and the Rhyme Rag Ensemble.
The Ensemble are group of young Kilkenny writers who meet on a regular basis. They attend regular workshops with professional writers and experienced literary tutors who help them to explore their writing and support their development and are supported by Ossory Youth and the Arts Council of Ireland.
