One-in-four of all Kilkenny students attend WIT
One in four students who go to college from Kilkenny schools go to Waterford Institute of Technology.
Feeder School Data from 2018 reveals of the 896 students from Kilkenny that went onto Higher Education Institutions, 229 of them went to WIT.
With this in mind, WIT is hosting two open days this week for both Kilkenny school leavers and adult learners at WIT Arena.
The traditional schools’ open day will run as usual this Friday, November 22, and will have a focus on information for secondary school students, students in further education colleges, and other CAO applicants, including mature students.
The Saturday Open Day will be for both school leavers and adults interested in upskilling. It will consist of information on the courses available across WIT’s schools of Lifelong Learning, Humanities, Engineering, Science and Computing, Health Sciences, Business.
Those who come to the open day can find out about Springboard courses, traditional evening courses as well as part-time and postgrad courses which are offered. WIT also runs specialist programmes for education, science, engineering and other professionals.
WIT Registrar Dr Derek O’Byrne says: “A trend we are seeing at WIT Open Days is that students who may have enjoyed the Schools Open day with their friends and school groups, will return the following day with their parents or guardians.”
