Class act: Growing Kilkenny school unveils exciting expansion plans

A county Kilkenny primary school has unveiled plans for a significant new extension.

In its planning application, the Board of St Senan’s Senior National School in Kilmacow is seeking permission to build a new one and two-storey extension, with “a total floor area of 1,019m²”.

The development will comprise of four new classrooms, two ET rooms, and a two-classroom Special Education Needs (SEN) unit “with its own soft play area, sensory garden”.

Permission is also sought for six new parking spaces, which will be accessed of the  existing main car park.

The school is also seeking to make alterations to an existing classroom “to form a new main entrance and associated offices”. According to the planning file, the works will also include the demolition of a prefabricated classroom and store, and the installation of solar PV panels on the existing roof, as well as “all associated drainage and site development works”.

A decision on the planning application is due at the end of next month.
