Kilkenny named in TripAdviser’s ‘Top 10’ tourist destinations in Ireland
KILKENNY has been named in travel TripAdviser’s Top 10 tourist destinations in Ireland.
The Marble City came sixth in the travel bible’s annual Travellers’ Choice Awards for destinations.
It the only part of the South East to feature in the top tourism rankings. In fact Kilkenny is the only town or city outside of Dublin and Cork to make the Top 10, with all the others entries being well-known tourist destinations in the West of Ireland.
Following Dublin in the top Ireland destination list is Killarney, while Galway, Dingle and Cork take third, fourth and fifth place respectively.
Kilkenny features ahead of Cong, Westport, Donegal town and Co Kerry’s Sneem in the Top 10 .
The TripAdvisor award recognises the most popular locations that are most popular based “on millions of reviews and opinions”.
TripAdvisor spokesperson Hayley Coleman said: “The Travellers’ Choice Destination awards recognise the world’s most beloved travel spots, based on feedback from the TripAdvisor community.”
The winners are picked using “an algorithm based on reviews and ratings for hotels, restaurants and experiences in destinations worldwide over a 12-month period”.
The global top 10 has seen London claim top spot, followed by Paris and Rome.
The same trio make up the top spot for the European top 10.
