‘Stronger together’ – Independent local election candidates agree voting pact
TWO Independent local election candidates in the Callan-Thomas electoral area have joined forces.
John Kelly and Trish Finegan have agreed a voting pact, asking their supporters to give their number two votes to the other candidate.
In a joint statement, the candidates highlighted their common goals. These include “advocating for more resources for rural communities” and “reducing social isolation” that affects many residents of rural communities that have lost their shops, post offices and pubs.
They say that standing as Independent candidates will enable them, at council level, “to work across the chamber more easily and with better effect than party candidates”.
And they argue that because they are not subject to a party whip they will be “better placed to raise the concerns of their community and work towards solutions with others from all parties and none.”
