A biker, a baker and a credit payment maker represent Kilkenny in entrepreneur battle

A MOTORSPORT fanatic, a specialty dessert maker and an IT whiz from Kilkenny are fighting it out to be named Regional Winner of Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur (IBYE).

The IBYE’s will see the three Kilkenny entrepreneurs face off against competition from Wexford, Carlow and Wicklow to claim a place in the national finals in September.  The awards take place today in Borris, Carlow.

Representing Kilkenny in the Best Idea Category is John Duggan from Tullahought, Piltown. John is co-founding director & CEO of Loanitt Ltd, a recently formed Fintech company that has plans to design a cutting-edge technology platform that streamlines the credit application process for all stakeholders.

Aptly in the Start Up category, Jens Kopke and his business Motoklik fly the Kilkenny flag. From his passion for motorsports, Jens set up Motoklik, aiming to improve the performance and safety of off-road motorcyclists through its unique automated suspension set-up.

In the Best Established Business category is Rory Gannon of Kilkenny’s Cakeface – a premium food business that creates unique high-end desserts. The business consists of a cafe, food production kitchen and cookery school.

The IBYE’s are promoted by the national group of Local Enterprise Offices.

Fiona Deegan, the Head of Enterprise with Local Enterprise Office Kilkenny said: “This competition highlights that Ireland’s entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well.

“This initiative aims to assist young entrepreneurs to develop and grow their business proposals through the supports such as bootcamps, training, networking and mentoring associated with the IBYE competition.”
