€200,000 to enhance outdoor spaces in Kilkenny town and villages
More than €200,000 has been awarded to seven projects that will help local communities to adjust to life in the face of the pandemic.
Kilkenny city, Callan, Freshford, Piltown and Ballyhale are among the more than 100 towns and villages across the country that will benefit from €4.25 million in funding under the Government’s enhanced Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
A total of €204,000 has been awarded to local projects from the initial tranche of funding worth. These include a Christmas Lights fund (€40,000), the #SHOPKILKENNY campaign (€22.500) and the provision of motorhome bays across Kilkenny (€40,000).
Some €25,000 has been earmarked for six new outdoor seating areas in Piltown. Ballyhale has been awarded the same amount for a new outdoor covered meeting place in the centre of the village. Freshford has also been given €25,000 to modernise its village square.
A further €40,000 has been provided to build a new pavilion style structure in Kilkenny and to promote wider use of a recently installed outdoor seating area in the city.
