Beef farmers demonstrate outside Kilkenny meat plant
By COLIN BARTLEY
THE NATIONWIDE protest over meat prices has come to a Kilkenny meat processing plant.
The Beef Plan Movement brought their protest to the gates of Dawn Meats in Grannagh, Co. Kilkenny overnight.
The protest plans to hit the wider agricultural industry financially by refusing to go to local co-ops; refusing to sell cattle in local marts; refusing to bring cattle to factories; and refusing to shop in local towns.
Organisers say the protests are necessary to protect the beef industry.
The beef farmers are objecting to the recommendations of the Climate Change Advisory Council, who wish to reduce the number of suckler cows by 53%, as part of an effort to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
The Beef Plan Movement’s emphasis is on ensuring demonstrations are carried out peacefully at all times by all participants.
