Chaos at Kilkenny rail station as signal fault causes major delays
By COLIN BARTLEY
FOR the second time in less than a week, Kilkenny commuters using the train this morning were facing long delays following a signal fault at MacDonagh station.
Irish Rail told customers the 6am train to Heuston Station in Dublin was going to be 60 minutes late and commuters were told to expect ‘knock on delays’ on later Waterford-Dublin services.
In a statement released on Irish Rail’s twitter account this morning, the national rail company said: “Due to a signal fault at Kilkenny, The 06:00 Waterford Heuston is expected to [be] 60mins late with delays expected to Waterford Heuston services in both directions.”
The most recent information from Irish Rail said: “Trains are still delayed.”
Many commuters took to social media to express their frustration.
Just last week, services were severely disrupted after thieves made off with over 300 meters of signalling cable.
