KILKENNY has a 5G network.

The Marble City is one of 10 locations mobile phone operator Eir has rolled out the service to as of today.

The new 5G network will offer connection speeds of over 1gps (gig per second) according to Eir.

Commenting on the rollout in Kilkenny, Eir’s CEO Carolan Lennon said: “Eir is transforming its mobile network and 5G will complement on-going upgrade and expansion of our 4G network, which will bring high voice and high-speed data coverage across more than 99% of the population of Ireland, allowing our customers to access high speed data services on the most expansive 4G mobile network in Ireland.”

As well as Kilkenny, the new service is available in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford, Carlow, Castlebar, Dundalk, and Drogheda. More areas will be added to Eir’s 5G network before the end of the year.
