WEATHER WARNING: Hair we go again! Now Storm Jorge set to batter Kilkenny
Is there is no end in sight to the rain? Well, it appears not for this weekend anyhow as Met Éireann has issued yet more rain and wind warnings for Kilkenny.
There is the also of flooding also as Storm Jorge is set to batter Ireland over the coming days and is rapidly approaching the country from the South West.
The national forecaster today issued a Yellow Rainfall Warning for Kilkenny and neighbouring counties which will come into effect at midnight.
Met Éireann said in a statement: “Rainfall accumulations of 20mm to 30mm expected during Friday and Saturday generally, but 40mm to 50 mm in parts of Kerry, with a continuing risk of flooding due to already saturated ground and elevated river levels.”
The rain warning is in place for Kilkenny, Donegal and all of Munster and Connacht.
But it doesn’t end there: Met Éireann has also issued a Yellow wind warning.
The national forecaster warned: “A band of very strong winds, associated with storm Jorge (Hor-hay) will extend across the country during Saturday morning and persist through the rest of the day and into the night.”
“Southwest veering westerly winds of mean speeds 50 to 65km/h with gusts of 90 to 110km/h are expected. This warning is valid for Kilkenny, Waterford, Tipperary, Limerick, Cork, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon and the whole of Leinster.”
The higher Orange Status Wind and Rain warning has been issued to counties along the western coast including Donegal, Mayo, Galway, Sligo, Leitrim, Clare and Kerry with gusts of 110 to 130km/h possible and a high-risk of coastal flooding.
