People power puts paid to controversial housing plans for Kilkenny village centre

A controversial apartment development proposed for a Kilkenny village has been refused planning permission following concerns raised by local residents about the project.

Centaur Developments in Ballyfoyle, just north of Kilkenny city lodged plans with Kilkenny County Council to build 12 apartments at Banagher Place, just off Piltown’s Main Street.

The plans looked for 10 two-bedroom apartments and two one-bed apartments to be built across two separate apartment blocks, as well as the provision of 17 car-parking spaces.

Locals became concerned about the high-density of the proposed development as the two-blocks and the car park would be constructed on a site just 0.4 hectares in size.

Six submissions concerning the development, raised by locals were received by Kilkenny County Council’s planning department.

In the past week the decision was made by the local authority to refuse planning permission.

Centaur Developments have up until April 18 to appeal the decision to An Bord Pleanala.
