More heroin discovered during follow-up operation to county Kilkenny Covid-19 checkpoint drug bust

Two men remain in custody this morning following the discovery of heroin at a county Kilkenny Covid-19 checkpoint on Sunday evening.

In a follow-up search of a property in Waterford city yesterday afternoon, more heroin was discovered.

As part of the operation which followed the discovery of 56 grammes of heroin in a car at the Grannagh Roundabout in Ferrybank on Sunday evening where two men were arrested, gardai searched the homes of the two men, one aged 38, the other aged 42 – and discovered a further 26 grammes of the drug in one of the arrested men’s house.

Members of the Waterford Drug Unit carried out the search and unearthed €3,640 worth of the drug.

This follows the 50 grammes found in a car at a Covid-19 checkpoint just off the M9 Motorway in county Kilkenny on Sunday evening.  In total, gardai have taken 82 grammes of heroin, with a street value of €11,500, off the streets.

The males are detained under section 2 of Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act 1996 and remain in Garda Custody.
