Early house: Pubs with restaurant licences to be allowed open doors sooner than expected – report
Hundreds of larger pubs with restaurant licences are set to open weeks earlier than expected, according to this morning’s Irish Times.
According to the report, the Government will give the go-ahead over the next few days after it met with representatives of the industry with the Licensed Vintners Association’s Donal O’Keeffe saying “hundreds of pubs are in full-scale active planning” for reopening.
According to current guidelines, pubs are not due to reopen until August 10.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet is due to meet this morning to decide whether to move to Phase 2 of the reopening the country, with Minister for Health Simon Harris saying last night that “all the indicators look very good” and that the public advice would change from ‘stay at home’ to ‘stay local’ as travel restrictions move from from 5km to 20km.
It is also expected that the opening of larger retail stores is to be brought forward and will see some bigger shops opening on Monday, although there’s bad news for fans of Penneys after it said it would not be ready to open in time.
