Thunderstruck: Caution urged on Kilkenny roads as yet another weather warning kicks in

There is a high risk of flooding in county Kilkenny as yet another rain warning comes into effect for the county, with people being asked to drive with extra care.

The national forecaster, Met Éireann issued yet another Yellow Status rain warning for Kilkenny which came into effect at 6am this morning and is set to last until 6am tomorrow morning.

The weather warning, which covers all of Munster and Leinster says: “Intense and potentially thundery downpours during Thursday and Thursday night may lead to localised flooding.

This latest warning comes on the back of the torrential rains that came with Storms Ellen and Francis over the past week.

Given recent heavy rainfall, this will further elevate river levels and may result in river flooding also,” the warning concluded.

Kilkenny Gardai are also urging people to travel with care as road will be dangerous and driving conditions poor.

“Please reduce your speed accordingly as weather conditions deteriorate,” a garda spokesperson said.

“Be conscious of the possibility of your vehicle aqua-planing when rain water lodges on road surfaces.

“Leave extra distance between vehicles in front of you. Be also conscious of pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.

“Expect the unexpected and slow down please,” the spokesperson concluded.
