LATEST: One further death while Kilkenny among the new 211 cases
There has been one further coronavirus related death and 211 more cases of Covid-19, the HSE confirmed this evening.
The overall death toll as a result of the virus remains at 1,781 while there are now 30,571 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country.
Kilkenny is among the counties where new infections were recorded, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).
Of the cases notified today;
- 100 are men / 108 are women
- 73% are under 45 years of age
- 28% are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case
- 42 cases have been identified as community transmission
- 121 in Dublin, 17 in Louth, 10 in Limerick, 8 in Cork, 7 in Westmeath, 7 in Wicklow, 6 in Laois, 5 in Donegal, 5 in Galway, and the remaining 24 cases are in Carlow, Clare, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Meath, Offaly, Roscommon, Tipperary, and Waterford.
Meanwhile, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said the country may be close to the level “at which we can live with the virus” and that it was imperative right now is to keep Covid-19 suppressed to avoid “if possible” a second lockdown.
Speaking at the Dublin Economics Workshop, Mr Varadkar added he did not think the impact of the coronavirus on the economy could be summed up in “a single hit hypothesis” like a V-shape or K-shaped recovery as he thinks there will be “multiple hits”.
