Snow joke – Met Éireann warns of frost and ice as temperatures plummet
WRAP up warm – Met Éireann has forecast the first fall of snow in 2019 as temperatures plummet to icy lows in Kilkenny and across the country.
The national forecaster said this morning will be crisp and sunny, but with “frost and icy stretches”.
Today will be cold, but dry in most areas “with a good deal of sunshine and light variable breezes”. However, cloud will slowly increase across the western half of the country with some rain arriving into the far southwest towards nightfall.
Temperatures in Kilkenny and throughout Leinster will plunge tonight to below freezing in places. Met Éireann said the rain “will be preceded for a time by a fall of snow as it spreads eastwards across the country”.
The rain in the east will clear tomorrow morning, it will be mainly dry with sunny spells.
Met Éireann said Saturday will also be mostly dry, with just a few showers on coastal regions.
It has forecast further cold conditions on Sunday and throughout the early parts of next week.
