LATEST: Kilkenny among 811 new cases of virus as three further deaths confirmed

A further three people have died after contracting the coronavirus as 811 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this evening.

It brings the overall death toll as a result of the virus to 1,830. There are now 44,159 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).

The breakdown of the latest cases is as follows: 190 are in Dublin, 141 in Cork, 62 in Wexford, 51 in Kerry, 50 in Clare with the remaining 317 cases spread across all remaining counties.

Commenting on the latest cases, Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: “We have widespread community transmission in the country. The spread of Covid-19 is a whole population issue, which is why we’re appealing to every single individual, every single family, household, organisation, workplace, to act on public health advice. You are the frontline defence against this disease.”
