Developer seeks to change permission on Kilkenny development to create 50% more homes

A developer who previously received planning permission to build 51 homes in a new area of Kilkenny City is now looking to alter the plans to provide more housing.

Kilkenny County Council gave Inistioge based developers Chelmont Limited permission in December 2018 to build the 51 three and four-bedroom homes at Drakelands Lower in the Western Environs of Kilkenny City.

Under that plan, Chelmont would have created 14 four-bedroom semi-detached houses, 23 four-bedroom terraced houses, 17 three-bedroom houses and three two-bedroom apartments on the 1.8 hectare site.

Under the new proposals sent to the local authority, Chelmont are looking to remove four of the four-bedroom detached homes and replace them with a three-storey building consisting of 18 one and two-bedroom apartments.

The new plans also call for the removal of 15 of the three and four-bedroom terraced homes, to be replaced by five terrace houses and a new three-storey apartment block consisting of 15 two-bedroom apartments.

The new plans would see 76 homes created on the site, 40 three and four bed homes, plus 36 apartments.

Submissions on the plans are being accepted by the council until the end of January and a decision on the proposal is expected by the middle of February.
