Kilkenny Council, gardai and HSE issue new Covid appeal amid huge spike in cases locally
The Health Service Executive (HSE), gardai and Kilkenny County Council have joined forces to make an appeal to people to adhere to the Covid-19 restrictions following a huge increase in cases in the South East region.
The HSE, gardai and the local authorities in Kilkenny and neighbouring counties Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford released a statement to reiterate the basic messages on preventing the spread of Covid 19.
The South East region as a whole has become a hotspot for Covid-19 since the relaxing of restrictions at Christmas. Prior to that the region consistently had one of the lowest instances of cases in the country.
The joint statement says: “The Covid 19 incident rate locally in the South East in the first month of 2021 has been very worrying and remains a very serious concern.
“In the current Level 5 of restrictions, everyone is being asked not just to adhere to the basics of prevention but also to stay at home – except for travel for work, education or to take exercise within five kilometres of home,” the statement adds.
The agencies thanked the public for their efforts to date, but reiterated that individual actions matter – including adherence to all of the public health restrictions. They urged people again reduce contacts with other people, wear a mask, keep your distance from others and to wash your hands regularly.
