WEATHER FORECAST: Wet and windy Bank Holiday weekend in store for Kilkenny
Met Éireann has put a damper of hopes of a beautiful Bank Holiday to celebrate the reopening of pubs and nightclubs.
This week Kilkenny has experienced some sun, rain, bits of hail and plenty of wind k – and it appears the mixed bag of unsettled conditions is set to continue over the next few days.
In its latest forecast, Met Éireann said things remain unsettled at the weekend as the temperatures will swing from the high teens to near-freezing with all sorts of weather in between.
Today will be a cloudier day overall, but bright or sunny spells will still break through at time. Met Éireann said: “Scattered showers, mostly across the northern half of the country during the morning, will gradually die out during the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees.”
Tomorrow will begin cloudy and mostly dry but will turn wet and breezy as a band of rain extends from the west. The national forecaster added: “There will be some moderate falls of rain in the west later in the morning with the rain becoming patchier as it extends to the east during the afternoon. Highest temperatures will range between 12 to 15 degrees, in fresh to occasionally strong and gusty southerly winds, moderating during the evening.”
On Sunday there will be sunny spells and scattered heavy showers. Met Éireann said these will mainly affect the west and northwest in the morning but will become widespread in the afternoon “with some heavier burst at times” and highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.
The showers will mostly become confined to western coastal counties once again on Sunday night with clear spells developing elsewhere. Turning cooler too with lows of 5 to 8 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly breezes.
Met Éireann forecast more sunny spells and scattered showers for Bank Holiday Monday, with showers in the west becoming widespread during the afternoon. It added: “Cloud will increase over Munster and Connacht during the evening hours, ahead of a band of rain overnight. It will be a fresh day with highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in mostly moderate west to southwest winds.”
The forecaster said it will be “mild and overcast “on Tuesday with rain in the northeast clearing during the morning. But Met Éireann added: “There will be patchy rain, drizzle and mist at times during the day before another band of rain extends from the northwest during the evening. Highest temperatures reaching 14 to 17 degrees as southwest winds increase moderate to fresh and gusty.”
