Ladder falls off van roof and hits two cars travelling on Kilkenny motorway

Motorists driving a busy Kilkenny road had a luck escape after a ladder flew off the roof of a van in front and struck two vehicles coming behind.

The incident occurred on the M9 Motorway during bad weather on Monday evening.

Gardai confirmed noone was injured in the incident, but a spokesperson warned: “It could have been a lot worse.

A local Garda spokesperson confirmed: “Gardaí from Unit C Kilkenny and Thomastown attended an incident this morning on the M9 Motorway. We were also joined by two units of the fire brigade.

“A ladder somehow became detached from the van’s roof. Two vehicles struck this causing minor damage.”

In a separate incident, the same crew from Kilkenny intercepted a van carrying a 14 foot pole, 6 feet of which was sticking out the back at windscreen height.

Gardai confirmed a fixed charge notice was issued to the driver and appealed to motorists carrying loads on vehicles to “make sure it’s safe and secure.”
