WEEKEND WEATHER: Snow joke – frosty forecast for Kilkenny as temperatures plummet
Kilkenny and the south east will experience some of the coldest temperatures in the country this weekend as temperatures plummet and rain, sleet and frost are forecast.
Met Éireann said this morning will be “cold and frosty with sunny spells,”adding: “Cloud will increase from the north through the day and outbreaks of rain will develop in Ulster and north Leinster during the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees in a light to moderate northerly wind.”
Tonight, outbreaks of rain will affect east and northeast counties and may turn to sleet at times over higher ground, becoming more widespread towards morning.
It will be rather cloudy tomorrow with showers mixed with sunny spells, with the best of these being across Ulster in the afternoon and evening, and highest afternoon temperatures 7 to 10 degrees. Frost will form overnight in parts the southeast, where it will be coldest with lowest temperatures of zero to minus 2 degrees.
On a more positive note, Met Éireann said Sunday will be mainly dry with sunny spells and isolated showers in the afternoon and highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees.
From Monday, current indications suggest westerly winds will bring a more unsettled spell of weather with rain or showers at times and temperatures closer to the seasonal average of 11 or 12 degrees in the afternoon.
