‘I couldn’t believe it’ – Kilkenny lotto winner plans to travel Europe in new campervan
A local Lotto winner said he literally “couldn’t believe” his luck when he matched his winning numbers.
The Kilkenny man was one of five winners – all from the south east – who collected their prizes at the National Lottery HQ in Dublin after the bank holiday weekend.
He scooped a cash prize of €56,625 when he matched five numbers plus the bonus in last Wednesday’s draw after buying his winning ticket at the Newsplus Extra shop on Kieran Street.
Recalling the moment he realised he hit the jackpot, he said: “Ever since the lotto started 37 years ago, I play it every week using my family’s dates of birth. I usually check and replay my tickets every Tuesday, but as soon as I saw the news that the win was in Kilkenny, I immediately went online to check the numbers. I had to check it so many times, I couldn’t believe it.”
The winner and his partner celebrated into the long bank holiday weekend, while he kept the winning ticket “well-hidden” at home.
He said the travel-loving couple plan to invest in a shiny new campervan to take them road-tripping across Europe.
The other winners who collected their giant cheques in Dublin included a Wexford man who won €60,005 in last Tuesday’s Telly Bingo Snowball.
Also taking home a cheque worth €50,000 was a Tipperary man, who won big on a Mega Money Multiplier scratch card, purchased at the Mace-Texaco in Cashel.
A fellow Tipperary player from Roscrea also won €50,000 on a Cash Grid scratch card purchased at the Carrig Road service station.
The fifth winner was another player from Waterford, who won €30,000 on an All Cash Tripler scratch card purchased at the Daybreak store on Military Road.
