‘Yet another scam’ – Kilkenny gardaí warn of latest online swindle

Local householders have been urged to beware of another online scam in the countdown to Christmas.

Kilkenny gardaí issued a public warning after they were alerted to a scam message sent by fraudsters falsely claiming to a presentative of Permanent TSB bank.

The text message told the receiver a “new online payment” had been made on their card for the sum of €644,29 “to Lidl”. They then asked the person to “confirm this payment” or to otherwise contact “customer service” at an 1800 number.

A local garda spokesperson said of the message: “We got this today from one of our page followers. He doesn’t have a PTSB account,” adding it is “yet another scam”.
