April showers to wash away sunny Spring weather: Met Éireann

APRIL showers and much colder conditions are set to replace the warm Spring weather we enjoyed last week.

Met Éireann warned temperatures across Kilkenny and Leinster will plummet today as last week’s glorious sunshine makes way for “wintry showers”.

The national forecaster said there will be some bright spells today with scattered rain showers, adding: “A more organised band of showery rain will spread from the west during the evening and may turn heavy in places. Highs of 10 to 12 Celsius.”

Met Éireann forecaster Matthew Martin said this week will be cold “for this time of the year”, adding: “We have a cold front expected to move south-eastwards across the country later on Monday and that’s going to introduce a cold air mass across the country for the week.”

Tonight will be cold, with minimum temperatures reaching freezing point and the week will continue to be cool after tomorrow morning – when hail and thunder are likely as April showers prevail.

Tomorrow and Wednesday will be cold and blustery, with maximum temperatures of up to 8C. Overnight temperatures are to plummet to as low as -1C.
