A further five pass away as childcare providers warned not to hike fees

A further five people lost their lives from Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland in the last 24 hours, the HSE said this evening.

The total death toll here is now 1,695 while the number of confirmed cases has now reached 25,231 after another 19 were diagnosed.

Meanwhile, creches and childminders have been warned not to raise fees if they are they apply for the new €75m funding package for the sector.

Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Katherine Zappone said providers must guarantee they will not increase their prices fees charged to parents.

Ms Zappone was speaking after the package was announced by the Government and as part of the initiative, a once-off grant of €10,000 is being provided from an €18m fund for facilities that are opening either at the end of July or late August.
