Treacherous conditions on Kilkenny’s roads following overnight snowfall
Driving conditions around county Kilkenny are said to be treacherous in places this morning after heavy snowfall overnight.
Reports of snowfall have been reported in all parts of the county and the city and with temperatures still at or below zero, and dry conditions forecast, the snow that landed could remain for some time.
Transport for Ireland are reporting road ice on Kilkenny’s motorways and road temperatures still below zero.
AA Roadwatch has asked motorist in Kilkenny to “take care in the area due to slippery conditions.”
Kilkenny Gardai have reported snow in many areas and again are urging caution while driving, while Kilkenny County Council took preemptive measures salting main routes in the county on two occasions overnight, warning that road conditions “are poor.”
A spokesperson for the council said: “In line with public health guidance only essential journeys should be taken at this time.
“Road users should proceed with extreme caution and have regard to prevailing conditions while this cold spell continues,” they concluded.
