A further three pass away as Beijing shuts schools again in new lockdown

A further three people lost their lives from Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland in the last 24 hours, the HSE said this evening.

The total death toll here is now 1,709 while the number of confirmed cases has now reached 25,334 after another 14 were diagnosed.

Meanwhile, Beijing’s has closed its schools again following a new outbreak of the coronavirus in the Chinese city of 21 million people.

Residents have been urged to stop “non-essential” travel while it also banned people living in “medium or high risk” areas from leaving the Capital altogether.

“Anyone leaving Beijing must have a negative reading on a nucleic acid test taken within seven days (prior to departure),” Chen Bei, deputy secretary general of Beijing’s municipal government, told a press conference after 27 new infections were reported recently.
