‘A gentleman’ – warm tributes paid to Kilkenny All-Ireland winner Denis
Kilkenny says goodbye to another of its hurling legends as former All-Ireland winner Denis Heaslip is buried today.
The Knocktopher man will be laid to rest after a family service subject to Covid guidelines at noon.
His former club Ballyhale Shamrock paid tribute to Denis on social media, saying they “are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Denis Heaslip”, adding: “Denis will be fondly remembered by all in the Club and Parish.”
Reports said Denis was widely acclaimed for his “elegant playing style” and “lightening speed” playing chiefly at half forward for the Cats.
Members of the local community also paid tribute in recent days to “a gentleman” from a “very generous family to the community over the years”.
