‘Absolutely disgraceful’ – calls for CCTV at local graveyard targeted by litter louts
A LOCAL and General Election candidate has called for CCTV cameras to be installed at a county Kilkenny cemetery that was targeted by litter louts.
There was outrage after pictures circulated on social media showed bags of discarded rubbish dumped outside Paulstown cemetery.
The shocking pictures, which were widely shared on the KCLR Facebook page in recent days, show plastic bags, bottles – and even dirty nappies – strewn all over the ground.
Labour Party local election candidate Denis Hynes described the actions of the litter louts responsible as “absolutely disgraceful”.
He told KilkennyNow.ie: “This is terrible for anyone who is going to visit their loved ones to see. I was in the graveyard recently – it is very well kept and it’s painful to think this is the ‘welcome’ that people get when they visit the cemetery.”
Mr Hynes called for CCTV cameras at be installed at the cemetery to act as deterrent to illegal dumpers.
He added: “It’s sad that it’s come to this, but CCTV cameras were installed in Goresbridge and other parts of the county and that’s unfortunately what’s going to have to happen here.”
