ALERT: Kilkenny bank customers targeted in new ‘smishing’ scam

Gardai have urged Kilkenny bank customers to be aware of a new ‘smishing’ scam.

In the latest scam, people are being contacted via text from individuals falsely claiming to represent Permanent TSB (PTSB).

The fraudsters claim the customer’s bank card or account have been “compromised” before trying to get them to reveal their personal banking details.

Gardaí have urged the public to never click a link in an unsolicited text or to give away personal data such as your PIN, card numbers or passwords.

They point out that a financial institution would never request customers to return a card or call to the bank in these sort of circumstances.
