ALERT: Kilkenny gardai issue new warning about phone scammers posing as Revenue officials
GARDAI have urged Kilkenny householders to beware of phone scammers who are continuing to target people by posing as Revenue officials.
There has been a large number of reported cases in recent weeks involving scam artists purporting to be Revenue officials who claim to be calling with details of a tax rebate.
In a number of cases householders gave out their personal banking details and only later discovered that they were the victim of a scam.
Kilkenny-Carlow Garda Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Peter McConnon said: “Anyone who calls you and claims to be from Revenue and asks for your private banking details is not from Revenue.
“Do not give you personal details to anyone over the phone. Do not engage with the callers and report it to gardai straight away.”
