And they’re off: Sponsorship boost for Kilkenny’s ‘race that stops a county’

The biggest day’s racing of the year at Gowran Park is upon us with ‘the race that stops a county’ going to post in just over 24 hours.

The importance of the day’s racing to the calendar is clear by the first-class field that has assembled for Thyestes Chase.

Management at Gowran Park were delighted this week to announce that the race sponsor Goffs is to continue their partnership with possibly Ireland’s best handicap chase up to and including 2024.

Gowran Park’s General Manager Eddie Scally said: “We are very pleased that Goffs have continued to sponsor our biggest race.

“The Goffs brand is renowned in racing and is a perfect fit got our time honoured chase. The Goffs Thyestes Chase is without question the most anticipated race at Gowran Park and Goffs continued support of this is a massive vote of confidence to us all at Gowran Park.”

This year’s Goffs Thyestes Chase goes to post at 3pm and entries include Acapella Bourgeois, Chef Des Obeaux, Ex Patriot and the early bookies favourite Minella Till Dawn trained by Gordon Elliott.

Aside from the top-class racing throughout the card, Gowran Park has provided a host of entertainment with live music on all floors and in the Heineken Live Marquee.

Tickets can be bought online at GowranPark.ie or on the day at the entrance. Tickets at the gates are priced at €25 for adults and €20 for OAP/Students.

Gates open at 10.30am with the first race going to post at 12.45pm.

Courtesy buses will run from the gates of Kilkenny Castle Gates from 10.45am on the day and return at 5pm.
