BLACKOUT: 1,000 Kilkenny homes without power after overnight storms

More than 1,000 customers in county Kilkenny remain without electricity this morning following the thunder and lightning storms which hit overnight.

1,011 ESB Network customers in Ferrybank, Glenmore and Slieverue woke up without power this morning following a fault at the Mount Misery depot. ESB crews have been working tirelessly to restore it.

The fault follows a night of thunderstorms that hit hard around Ferrybank, Glenmore, and Mullinavat. There were also lightning strikes recorded close to Callan, Stoneyford, Mooncoin and Urlingford.

The main electrical storm which caused the outage centred just off the Waterford coast, and has caused power outages there also.

The ESB  hope to have the power restored by lunchtime and said: “We apologise for the loss of supply. We are currently working to repair a fault affecting your premises and will restore power as quickly as possible.”
