Body of five-year-old boy recovered from lake following water tragedy

The body of a five-year-old boy who went missing in a lake in county Mayo yesterday afternoon has been discovered this morning.

It is understood the boy fell into the water at Lough Mask near Tourmakeady while boating on the lake yesterday afternoon.

A massive search was launched including Coast Guard and coast guard Helicopter from Shannon Airport, the gardai, Civil Defence, Lough Mask Water Rescue and local divers.

Gardaí in Castlebar this morning confirmed that the body of the young boy was recovered from Lough Mask and search operation has been stood down.
