BREAKING: Arrests and drugs seizures as major crackdown on Kilkenny criminals gets underway

A MAJOR crackdown on organised crime in Kilkenny involving up to 80 gardai from local and specialist divisions is getting underway in the city this morning as part of Operation Storm.

KilkennyNow.ie can reveal a number of arrests and drug seizures have already been made as part of a series of “planned and targeted” Garda operations.

Up to 80 uniformed and plain clothes gardai from the Kilkenny-Carlow Garda division backed up by national support services, including the Garda Mounted Unit, Dog Unit and Air Support Unit are involved in today’s operation.

Twenty-six trainee guards are also taking part in the operation.

The officers were briefed by Chief Superintendent Dominic Hayes and Superintendent Derek Hughes at 6.20am in Kilkenny this morning ahead of the operation.

The operation will last for several hours.
