BREAKING: Cllr Martin Brett is the new Mayor of Kilkenny
JUST a few weeks ago Martin Brett was slugging it out for the final council seat in the Kilkenny City electoral area with Sinn Féin’s Seán Tyrrell.
Fast forward to today and the Fine Gael politician has been confirmed as Kilkenny’s First Citizen.
Cllr Brett’s appointment as the new Mayor of Kilkenny was rubber stamped at a meeting of Kilkenny County Council this evening.
The Deputy Mayor of the newly-elected council is Fianna Fáil’s John Coonan (pictured below), who was his party’s third councillor to be elected in the city.
Mayor Brett takes the chain of office from his predecessor, Callan-Thomastown poll topper Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere, who was recently elected as Chair of Kilkenny County Council for the next year.
