BREAKING: Kilkenny among 777 new cases of virus as 7 further deaths confirmed

A further seven more people have died after contracting the coronavirus as 777 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this evening.

It brings the overall death toll as a result of the virus to 1,878. There are now55,261 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across ther country, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).

The breakdown of the latst cases is as follows: 182 are in Dublin, 81 in Galway, 44 in Wexford, 42 in Meath, 41 in Cork, with a further 387 cases spread across the 21 remaining counties.

The latest cases were confirmed after the Department of today confirmed it has recalled a hand sanitiser that was widely used in schools across the country.

The department said the ViraPro Hand Sanitiser was removed from the Biocidal Product Register due to possible public health concerns.

RTÉ reported that approval for the product was revoked on Tuesday, but this was not announced until last night.

The Department of Agriculture confirmed ViraPro PCS 100409 was recalled because it was found that prolonged use “may cause dermatitis, eye irritation, upper respiratory system irritation and headaches”.
