Man taken to St Luke’s after violent assault in Kilkenny city-centre

A SUSPECT has been arrested after a man was violently assaulted in Kilkenny city-centre in the early hours of the morning.

The incident occurred in the St Mary’s Lane area of the city at 2.25am on Sunday.

A local Garda source said the man was approached by two people who were “known to him” and assaulted.

The victim’s upper lip was cut open in the attack. Gardai arrived at the scene a short time later and administered first aid to the victim.

They then brought him to St Luke’s General Hospital where he was treated for facial injuries that required stitches.

Kilkenny gardai confirmed one suspect has been questioned in connection with the assault. They have urged any potential eyewitnesses to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 777 5000.
