BREAKING: Two more deaths and 14 new cases as Government pushes back reopening of pubs and clubs
Two more people have died after contracting the coronavirus as 14 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this evening.
It brings the overall death toll as a result of the virus to 1,748. There are now 25,683 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).
The number of cases in Kilkenny remains the same at 356, or one per cent of the overall cases.
The latest deaths were confirmed as the Government confirmed the reopening of pubs and nightclubs will be deferred until August 10.
The decision was agreed by the Cabinet as ministers met in Government Buildings this evening.
Earlier it was confirmed that there has also been a reported increase in the number of Covid-19 ‘clusters’ in private home in the past week, especially in the east of the country.
The number of clusters or outbreaks of Covid-19 reported in private households increased by 96 in the week to last Sunday, according to the latest figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.
The majority of the outbreaks (72) were recorded in eastern counties.
