Calm after Storm Erik – sunny spells in Kilkenny today, but more heavy gusts on way

MET Éireann’s Status Yellow weather warning lifted at 6am this morning after Storm Erik battered the country will severe gusts of up to 130km/hr.

However, the national forecaster has warned of further severe gusts, with sleet, hail and possibly some thunder throughout Kilkenny and the rest of Leinster.

Heavy rainfall overnight and early this morning gave way to cool sunshine in many parts of the county, with sunny spells breaking through and the odd heavy shower.

Temperatures will drop again tonight, some showery spells but generally dry.

There is a threat of frost with lows of between -1 to 2 degrees overnight, before we wake to some sunny spells early tomorrow.

However, more heavy winds are forecast for later in the day.

Met Éireann said: “There is the risk of sleet and hail later in the evening. Threat of thunder too. Driest for southern counties with winter sunshine here. Feeling cold with highs of 5 to 8 degrees Celsius, with an added winds chill.”
