Another walk on the wild side: Second charity hike across Ireland’s longest bridge spanning Kilkenny and Wexford on cards
Organisers of a charity walk over the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy bridge linking Kilkenny and Wexford are looking into the possibility of holding a second event.
The original charity walk across Ireland’s longest bridge spanning the River Barrow at Pink Point organised for this Sunday, January 26, sold out within two days after it was announced last weekend.
Due to demand, the organisers – Kilkenny County Council, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and Wexford County Council – are looking into the possibility and logistics of hosting another walk which may take place this Saturday.
An announcement is due to be made on this soon. All monies raised from the charity walks will go towards Special Olympics Ireland, New Ross Community Hospital and Kilkenny Homecare.
The walks are being held now, as once the bridge opens next Wednesday, January 29, pedestrians will not be able to use it.
A spokesperson for the organisers said: “Due to huge popular demand, event registration has already sold out. We would like to thank all of those who have registered for your support and enthusiasm. Your contributions to our charity partners are greatly appreciated.
“We regret that some people have not had the opportunity to join us for the event and recognise the disappointment that this will cause. Due to safety, operational and resource considerations, event capacity has to be capped. We hope that everyone will appreciate the constraints involved.”
The 4.5km charity walk this weekend is being run as a zero-waste event.
