City slicker: Kilkenny is one of country’s top visitor experiences says leading travel guide
A trip to Kilkenny is one of the top experiences a visitor to Ireland can do while touring the Emerald Isle according to the world’s premier travel guide.
Tripadvisor, the online travel comparison site, has just released its 2020 Traveller’s Choice Awards and the medieval treasures in Kilkenny city ranks third in best visitor experiences on the island of Ireland.
A visit to the North Antrim coast taking in the Giant’s Causeway top the list for 2020, while a trip to the stunning Cliffs of Moher picked up the silver award.
The website advises visitors to Kilkenny to: “Enjoy the scenery and leave the driving to your guide on the way to Kilkenny Castle.
“Listen to your guide’s commentary on the history of the castle, built in the 12th century on the River Nore.
“Spend some free time exploring the chambers and the rose garden at your own pace, before heading out into the village of Kilkenny.
“Stroll the cobblestone streets, taking in sights of the monasteries, cathedrals, and Tudor-style houses. Meet up with your guide for a last stop at the 12th-century St. Francis Abbey Brewery,” it concludes
The list is devised from reviews and ratings left by the general public on the Tripadvisor site.
