Cocaine, cannabis and banned: Driver arrested on the spot after being stopped on Kilkenny road
A driver who failed a roadside drugs test in county Kilkenny was arrested on the spot when it emerged he was also a disqualified driver.
Members of the Thomastown Roads Policing Unit stopped a vehicle in Bennettsbridge shortly before 10pm on Thursday as part of the Gardai’s month of action enforcing safety in Irish roads.
The driver, a male, was asked to undergo an on the spot oral fluid drug test. He returned positive results for a number of controlled drugs including cocaine and cannabis. While issuing the test, it emerged the driver was disqualified.
He was arrested on the spot, processed and charged in Thomastown Garda Station where they took a blood sample to be sent for analysis. The driver’s vehicle was seized.
The man is set to appear before a sitting of the local district court in the near future.
Garda urge people to never drive while under the influence of an intoxicant and to arrive alive.
